BOARDMAN, OH – Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 – Northeast Ohio will be hosting two walleye tournaments that will benefit a local youth outdoors charity. The Walleye Madness Tournaments will be held on August 18th on Lake Erie out of Ashtabula and on September 30th on Berlin Lake.
The tournaments will offer the opportunity for anglers to compete for cash, prizes and awards while helping to support a worthy cause, On Target Outfitters. Title sponsors of the events are Buckeye Sports Center, Lund Boats and Mercury Marine. In addition, Wildewood on Lake Savant, a northwest Ontario fishing and hunting resort, has donated a seven day trip for two to be used as a fund raising prize to help On Target Outfitters expand their programs to help further develop their programs including fishing education and activities. The tournaments will be operated by Walleye Team Six (WT6), a registered affiliate of The Walleye Federation. Additional planning, support and coordination are being offered by JC Fishing and volunteers from On Target Outfitters and the Ohio Valley Outdoors Pro-Staff.
The tournaments will also feature a separate bracket via The Walleye Federation for anglers interested in qualifying for the prestigious Cabela’s National Team Championship. The Cabela’s NTC is an annual event in which anglers from across the US and Canada fish in sanctioned tournaments competing for a spot in the world’s largest walleye tournament.
“It’s a privilege to help organize these events to benefit On Target Outfitters” states John “JC” Csizmadia, the director of Walleye Madness Tournaments. Csizmadia is a pro-staffer for Buckeye Sports Center, Lund Boats and Mercury Marine. He is also the co-host of the Ohio Valley outdoors radio show. It was an episode of the radio show that provided the inspiration to create Walleye Madness Tournaments. “We had Steve Scott, the director of On Target Outfitters and a group of kids from their program as guests on the show. When I saw the confidence and lifelong lessons that their work is inspiring in young people, I wanted to do something to contribute to their efforts. With the help of our sponsors and supporters, Walleye Madness Tournaments will benefit On Target Outfitters and also promote the sport of fishing. It’s a win-win for everyone involved”, offers Csizmadia.
Plans are in the works for Walleye Madness Tournaments to expand in 2013 to include additional events and a youth fishing tournament. “We have secured commitment from our title sponsors for 2013 and we hope that others will lend their support to help us continue to expand and to allow more young people to become involved in fishing and the great outdoors experience”, states Csizmadia.
