Ohio Walleye Federation Hosts Geneva Open

The Ohio Walleye Federation held its second central basin circuit qualifier sponsored by Vic’s Sports Center out of Geneva, OH on July 13th.   Tournament format allowed for up to 4 person teams with a 6 rod limit per boat.  Lake Erie is known for big waves and big fish and it did not disappoint.  48 teams participated in the event with 18 teams brining 5 fish bags to the scale topping 40lbs.  The team of Brett Berkey, Joe Bird and Todd Johnson took top honors and the $3000 1st place prize with an impressive 43.04lb bag narrowly beating out the second place team of Beran, Beran, Barto and Fayteik by less than .2lbs.  Less than 2lbs separated the top 10 teams with over 41lbs needed to cash a check.  Most of the teams in the top 10 fished 10-20 miles North East of Geneva in 70-73ft of water.  Worm harnesses fished on in-line weights and dipsy divers seemed to be the most popular presentation targeting 35 – 45 ft down.  Berkey, Johnson and Bird also won the top placing Vic’s Customer bonus and the Ranger Cup bonus.  The team of Leigh, Leigh,  Leigh and Leigh won the highest placing family team bonus sponsored by Vic’s sports center.  The team of Lynch, Schiavoni and Russo claimed big fish with a 10.52lb monster.

All teams who participated in either of the first two CBC qualifiers are eligible to fish the OWF championship out of Ashtabula, OH on August 10th and 11th.  More details and complete results can be found at www.FishOWF.com

Harlan Youth Angler Reels In a Nice One!

Breck Miller100_0256The Harlan Anglers Walleye Club also holds a fishing tournament every Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00PM. The Tuesday night tournaments start in April and end the last Tuesday in September. These Tuesday nights are to promote family fishing and here is a picture of Breck Miller age 9 who has been fishing Tuesday nights with his Dad Ryan Miller.

Breck let us know he chose his own lure tied it on and caught this big walleye. This fish helped his Dad Ryan Miller, their partner Steve Maurer and Breck win the tournament on July 2, 2013.

Breck’s walleye weighed 7.48lbs and was 27.5 in. long, just a half inch shy of Master Angler. Breck reeled the fish in himself and was very proud of his fish, rightfully so.

Harlan Anglers Walleye Give Away Youth Lifetime Fishing Permits

Tom Jamie JadonThe Harlan Anglers Walleye Club in Association with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will give away three free youth Lifetime Fishing Permits. Cabela’s pays for ½ of this permit and the Club used the money from raffle sales to pay the other ½. Area Businesses and individuals donated either cash or door prizes to the club which were used for raffle drawings and the proceeds from this made it possible to give away these lifetime permits, and the Club would like to thank the businesses for these donations, The Club has held two of these raffle drawings for the lifetime fishing permits so far this year and the raffle tickets are free for any youth wishing to enter the contest.

The winners of the two youth Lifetime fishing permits given away by the Harlan Anglers Walleye Club were Jadon J Harrold pictured with his Father Jamie on the left and his Granddad Tom on the right. Jadon is three years old.
