Harlan Anglers Club Hold Tournament June 4 & 5
Harlan Anglers Walleye Club
Harlan County Lake
Alma Nebraska
The Harlan Anglers Walleye club held a two day Walleye tournament on Saturday June 4th, 2011 & June 5, 2011 on the Harlan County Lake. The Harlan County Lake is the 2nd largest lake in Nebraska. The tournament was two people teams per boat for those fishing the tournament.
There were twenty six teams in the tournament this year, with numbers being down due to the high price of gas and other tournaments going on the same date. Fishing has also been tough the last few years due to a drought that lowered the lake to the lowest level since the lake was originally filled. The level was down for about six years before the lake filled and went to the highest level recorded to date. The flooded timber made it tough to get to the walleye and this year there was an improvement in the walleye fishing, with this being the best year in probably the last six years. All fish are released after weigh in.
The tournament brought in teams from Nebraska, Kansas ,Colorado, & Iowa.
Prizes were awarded by the total weight of both days and also big fish of the tournament. Nineteen teams weighed walleye for the two day tournament. Big fish of the tournament was caught by the team of Scott Bunger & Josh Cederburg weighing 6.36lbs. Continue reading
Future Fisherman Foundation & The Bass Federation Join Forces
McLean, V.A. (May 31, 2011)—In light of difficulties raising much-needed funding to support its programs, the Future Fisherman Foundation (F3) has sought and found a new home with The Bass Federation (TBF), Inc. of Ponca City, Okla. Since 1968, the Federation has been recognized as the oldest and largest organized broad-based, independent, grassroots organization in bass fishing. After weeks of discussion, F3’s board of directors and the leadership of TBF approved the merger, which will ensure important F3 programs such as Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) continue to be available for educators and youth throughout the U.S. The transfer of all F3’s assets to TBF will take place immediately.
